Tooling and Process Technician

Main purpose of the job

Responsible for the maintenance and improvement of all tooling and fixtures in line with production and customer requirements to support business objectives. Support new tooling for new product introductions to ensure the robustness of product builds.

Main missions and results

• Carry out tooling and fixtures Planned Maintenance in line with the schedule and document results.

• Carry out routine PM and cleaning schedules using correct methods and specialised cleaning equipment.

• Attend breakdowns and be responsible in identification of faults with tooling and identify if must be removed from machine for repair.

• Identify tooling or process issues and complete minor repairs/adjustments.

• Identify defects and problem solve with minimal downtime to aid production.

• Identify and escalate any activity that has the potential to cause harm or damage.

• Identify tooling critical spares requirements, organise the stores and log usage.

• Test and confirm tool sensors and pneumatic systems before returning tool to production.

• Operate lifting equipment/FLT to manipulate tools safely.

• Support new project tooling from commissioning stages through to start of production.

• Complete minor modifications of tooling to support trials during commissioning stage

• Assist in tooling buyoffs and trials.

• Record all relevant data including history, analysis, defects etc. in relation to tooling on relevant database.

• Complete Tool changes in line with Tool change procedure and update documents.

• Ensure Start-up & Shutdown procedures for machines are followed and recorded.

• Ensure Correct Recipe is loaded and first off produced for quality approval.

• Complete SMED activities to identify opportunities for improvement.

• Carry out checks to settings from parameter sheet ensuring programme matches what is on sheet.

• Ensure all data relevant to process & or machine downtime is captured & recorded correctly.

• Ensure all changes to process are documented and validated.

• Be actively involved in improvement activities to support the achievement of departmental and company objectives.

• Identify continuous improvements to reduce costs, scrap and lost time.

• Undertake special projects as required.


Preferred skills and experience

• Must have experience with tool build and repair.

• Experience of process and machine start up and setup.

• Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills of technical issues.

• Able to produce clear, concise and accurate written and verbal communications (in English) at all levels.

• Effective listening skills and ability to clarify and confirm technical support requirements.

• Is self-confident, proficient and competent and can work well under pressure and with minimum supervision.

• Able to work in an engineering team environment and participate in all team activities, with a willingness to share experience and skills and promote the development of team members.
