OBJECTIVE:

Must be able to understand and operate equipment appropriate for the Tool Maker trade to create and make tooling to match part drawings. With the proper equipment have the ability to create angles, radius, on all tooling to create a high quality, tight tolerance parts. These duties are to be performed within quality and production standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Read and be able to understand blueprints and use necessary measuring devices to make, or modify existing tooling, tools for new or old job prints.

2. Make sure tools are sharpened and tool holders in good working condition before being placed back on shelf or in tool drawers. Repair or requisition replacement parts, tooling or hardware as needed to maintain adequate stock.

3. Manufacture and repair of dies, molds, jigs, fixtures, gauges, press tools and various types of precision mechanical devices.

Example: For a fixture with hydraulic or pneumatic actuators, the Tool Maker and the Millwright work as a team have the Tool Maker perform precision tooling repairs and adjustments and the Millwright replaces or repairs hydraulics or pneumatics.

4. Check tooling in and out of tool room logs.

5. Set-up and operate all tool room machines for specific form tool, tap, drills, or holder for grinding.

6. To be subject to call-in for emergency tool and die repairs 24 hours a day.

7. To maintain, at required standards of good housekeeping, the Tool Room.

8. To maintain card files on mold installation.

9. To be able to pass the minimum standards of the pre-employment physical and mental tests. Must possess evidence of journeyman status or be able to qualify for a Journeyman’s card. Must be able to lift, on occasion, weight in excess of 35 pounds but not more than 100 pounds.

10. Provide technical assistance in the repair and adjustments of existing equipment created at IAC-Mendon to ensure precision and repeatable operation.

11. Responsible to the Tool Room Supervisor.

12. Must have machinist tools necessary to perform the duties of a Journeyman.

SPECIAL RELATIONSHIPS:

1. Is expected to show initiative in suggesting and implementing improvements in tooling and production operations affected by same.
