Production Manager - Substrate (3 shift rotation)

Main purpose of the job

The Production Manager is responsible for co-ordinating the operational team, whilst maintaining primary responsibility for the health and safety of your team and engaging the cross functional teams in order to efficiently manage the daily, weekly and monthly manufacturing KPI’s in line with customer demand and specification. Maintaining and enforcing best working practices across all areas and processes whilst challenging for continuous improvement and self development.

Please note that this position would require working on Sunday nights.


Role accountabilities

Primarily responsible for the Health and Safety of all employees across the site or any other area under your authority from time to time.

Responsible for reporting any Health, Safety & Environmental concerns in the plant including near misses which will include the timely completion and submission of the relevant investigation packs to the required standard.

Conduct accident Investigations, implementing safe working practices and action any mitigations arising within the relevant timeframe.

Responsible for ensuring risk assessments are carried out across site in conjunction with reviewing and updating where applicable any existing risk assessments.

Lead and develop a group of Team Leaders in your area, to include performance management, absence, disciplinary and grievance issues.

Development of the Team and ensuring full ownership which must include continuing improvements in housekeeping, plan adherence, OEE, problem solving, CI activities and Plant objectives.

Full headcount ownership for directs and indirects within your reporting line to ensure skilled staffing levels are maintained and operational heads are aligned to the latest RTO including effective holiday management.

Responsible for accurate and timely completion of the company’s T and A system.

Clear reporting and responsibility for any overtime requirements within budgetary constraints.

Responsible for managing the introduction of engineering change or any new products effectively across the Operational facility. This will include ensuring the relevant quality documentation is available and approved. ( Deviation , Quality alert, PSW ). Lead any trials with a cross functional team.

Ensure cycle times are understood and being met ( inline with RTO and workbooks ) and down time minimised.

Monitor and ensure containments are conducted in a timely manner in line with the approved and signed documentation.

Responsible for ensuring that both SAFE and Layered Process Audits are conducted in a timely manner and issues arising are resolved.

Lead the Manufacturing Accountability meeting daily to include all cross functional teams.

Ensure timely completion of shift reports to include any H and S issues with an overview of quality performance and any production issues.

The role will be the initial point for escalation from the shopfloor team and the customer with specific regard to quality issues, machine breakdowns and any other issue which may cause the end customer a supply shortage.

Timely escalation to Senior Operations Management for any issue that is in line with the escalation procedure.

React accordingly to any additional requests or requirements as assigned by the Senior Leadership team.

Responsible for effective communication and the driving of cultural changes and behaviours across the business.

Lead by example whilst upholding the companies code of conduct guidelines.

Continual provision of management support both during the week and weekends which supports business needs.

Preferred skills and experience

LM level 5 in leadership or equivalent qualification.

Significant experience in leading and developing Operational Teams in a similar Manufacturing environment.

In depth knowledge of Manufacturing principles & processes.

AFE and LPA Audit trained.

Proven in continuous improvement activities.

Fully compliant and proven leadership in PPS activities.

Excellent communication skills at all levels.

PC literate, Microsoft applications Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Understanding of IATF 16949/ ISO 9001 quality standards .

Qualified Green Belt.

Fully LOTO trained with auditing capability.

Absence management trained.

Fully compliant across ER issue and resolution including all levels of disciplinary.
