Paint & Glue Process Engineer

Main Function / Purpose of Job:

  • Responsible for the maintenance and running of the plant Paint/Glue process and application equipment in accordance with established control plans to satisfy the customer quality standards and delivery schedule.
  • Identify, communicate, and document any difficulties relating to the product, process and/or quality system as per IATF-16949 directives.
  • Responsible for the health, safety and environmental aspects of your area including, reporting safety hazards, accidents, near miss reporting and escalation, responsible for implementing any preventative action as required.
  • Implement cost-reduction improvements for both new and existing equipment/processes.
  • Technical support to all Production and Engineering operations for improvement programs
  • Initiate, recommend and provide solutions utilising error proofing techniques to prevent the occurrence of any nonconformities relating to the product, process and/or quality system through designated channels.
  • Develop, implement, verify, and document parameter settings for all Pain/Glue process and application equipment to maintain the specified quality standards detailed in the control plans for all products.
  • Track, record, and prepare management reports detailing process capability and trend analyses of key parameters.
  • Develop robotic path motions and operating parameters for the introduction of new products and the continuous improvement of existing programs to optimise transfer efficiency within the guidelines of the control plans and customer quality standards. Development consists of initial setup of path work, application parameters, carrier density part orientation, and any other parameters which affect the processing of the product, such as robotic or mechanical related issues.
  • Coordinate with the appropriate Paint/Glue line personnel in the completion of process related projects and improvements.
  • Communicate and cooperate with Paint/Glue suppliers on usage optimisation, formulation compatibility, Paint/Glue performance and quality issues. Work with equipment suppliers to accurately collect application and performance data on new technology tested in the Paint/Glueing process.
  • Communicate and cooperate with cleaning suppliers to test new processes and products to ensure optimisation of system performance.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement teams as assigned by the Engineer Manager.
  • Create and manage budget year on year.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of FMEA's, control plans and TS-16949 documentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Preferred Education & Experiences to fulfill role (essential & desirable):

  • Previous automotive Paint/Glue systems, finishing and robotic experience required.
  • Experience with industrial control, computer technology and programming are an asset.
  • ABB Robot experience a plus
  • Siemens PLC control system
  • Experience of Mader Paint/Glue Systems a plus
  • General knowledge of production control / scheduling systems
  • Good analytical / problem-solving skills
  • Working knowledge of statistical analysis
  • General MS-Office skills,
  • Able to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001, IATF 16949 requirements
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • Working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles
  • Basic knowledge of machining / tooling; and electrical / schematics
