3rd Shift Supply Chain/Materials Supervisor

Position Overview:
The 3rd shift Supply Chain (Materials) Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of the materials department, including shipping, receiving, and inventory control. The role involves supervising forklift drivers, clerks, and directing truck traffic to ensure materials are efficiently and accurately handled. This position requires strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with an emphasis on safety and continuous improvement within a fast-paced environment. The supervisor will also work closely with other departments to ensure smooth operations and on-time delivery of materials.

  • Cross-Functional Duties: Perform daily cross-functional tasks in your assigned department according to established procedures and work guidance.
  • Lean and Continuous Improvement: Support and participate in lean and continuous improvement programs and initiatives.
  • 5S Standards: Maintain cleanliness and organization of all work areas in alignment with 5S standards.
  • Communication Etiquette: Maintain professionalism when using radios, PA systems, and phones for business communication.
  • Other Duties as Assigned: Assist with additional duties as needed, as directed by the Materials Manager or supervisor.

Position-Specific Responsibilities (PSR):

  • Forklift Driver Supervision: Supervise and manage the team of forklift operators, ensuring that all material handling tasks, including loading and unloading, are completed safely, efficiently, and accurately.
  • Clerk Supervision: Oversee the performance of materials clerks, ensuring accurate data entry, documentation, and inventory management. Ensure that all materials transactions are recorded and tracked accurately in the system.
  • Truck Traffic Management: Direct incoming and outgoing truck traffic to ensure efficient material flow, proper scheduling of deliveries, and safe loading/unloading processes. Coordinate with logistics to ensure timely arrivals and departures.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee the accurate management of materials inventory, ensuring that stock levels are maintained to meet production requirements. Work closely with Manufacturing Operations to manage raw materials inventory, replenishment, and storage.
  • Shipping and Receiving Supervision: Supervise all aspects of the shipping and receiving functions, ensuring timely and accurate movement of materials into and out of the warehouse.
  • Raw Materials Scheduling: Schedule and coordinate raw materials to meet pilot and production requirements, ensuring that materials are available when needed without overstocking.
  • Customer and Supplier Communication: Communicate with customers and suppliers regarding delivery schedules, order quantities, and material issues.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and guide a team of Materials Specialists, forklift operators, and clerks, providing support, direction, and mentorship. Ensure that team members are trained and aligned with company policies and procedures.
  • Training and Development: Provide training on new programs, processes, and safety standards. Mentor team members to ensure they are skilled and knowledgeable in all relevant tasks.
  • After-Hours Support: Provide after-hours and weekend support as required, ensuring operations continue smoothly during off-peak times

Education:

  • A BS/BA degree is preferred, or a minimum of 3-5 years of directly related experience in materials management or supply chain operations.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing, logistics, or materials management environment.
  • Experience overseeing forklift operations, truck traffic coordination, and inventory management.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage, motivate, and develop a diverse team of materials specialists, forklift operators, and clerks.
  • Proven ability to manage the logistics of shipping and receiving functions.
  • Familiarity with QAD, OEM systems, and AS400 is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to stand or sit for 8-12 hours a day, with occasional lifting up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to perform overhead work and work below the waist, as needed.
  • Must be able to move and operate materials with a forklift, as well as assist with loading/unloading tasks.
  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including eye protection and other task-specific safety equipment.
